BIOGRAPHY

An outstanding talent, Guy Few is in high demand as a trumpeter, cornist and pianist and is renowned for his virtuosity and musicianship. Acclaimed as “outrageously gifted" and "quite simply phenomenal" (Le Devoir, Montréal), it is no wonder that he is in demand as a soloist with many orchestras, in recital and for festivals throughout Canada and the USA.

 

Mr. Few has appeared with prestigious orchestras including the Toronto Symphony, the Vancouver Symphony, the Quebec Symphony, the Winnipeg Symphony, the Santa Rosa Symphony, and the Oregon Bach Festival Orchestra to name a few. As a chamber musician, Guy performs on a regular basis with bassoonist Nadina Mackie Jackson as part of the Guy & Nadina Duo. He is also a member of Project Aria with Soprano Leslie Fagan and pianist Stephanie Mara. This season Project Aria will premiere their brand-new program, Christmas Home, a cozy program of classic songs and stories.

 

Mr. Few has been invited as concerto soloist, recitalist, principal horn player, professor and adjudicator to hundreds of festivals including The Festival of the Sound, Scotiafest, The Orford Festival, The Kiwanis National Music Festival, The Ottawa Chamber Festival, The Elora Festival, Tanglewood, Takefu International Music Festival, the Oregon Bach Festival and the Pender Harbour Chamber Festival to name a few. This season will see him perform with the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra and the Saskatoon Symphony. Clinics and master classes have been presented for festivals worldwide including Scotiafest, Takefu International Music Festival, Orford Arts Centre and The Banff Centre for the Arts as well as post-secondary institutions such as the Montreal Conservatory, the University of Toronto, Memorial University of Newfoundland, State University of New York at Fredonia and Sonoma State University.

 

A prolific recording artist Guy has released CDs on labels including the S.N.E., Arsis Classics, CBC Musica Viva, CBC SM5000, Naxos, MSR Classics and the Hänssler Classics labels. His Hänssler recordings include the Grammy Award winning Credo with music by Penderecki performed with the Oregon Bach Festival Orchestra and Helmuth Rilling as conductor.

 

Mr. Few is a gold medal graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, Ontario and holds a Fellowship Diploma from Trinity College, London, England. He is also on faculty at Wilfrid Laurier University.

 

Guy Few is a Yamaha artist.
