BIOGRAPHY

Praised for his “rich imagination and keen mind” (Diapason Magazine), Canadian cellist Cameron Crozman has captivated audiences as a soloist and chamber musician across Canada, the USA, and Europe. He has appeared with major orchestras including the Orchestre National d'Ile-de-France (Paris), as well as the Montreal, Winnipeg, Hamilton, and Vancouver Island Symphonies. His performances span prestigious venues like the Philharmonie de Paris and the Shanghai Oriental Arts Centre to unique stages such as the Qidi Vidi Brewery in Newfoundland.

A passionate collaborator, Mr.  Crozman has performed alongside luminaries such as James Ehnes, Augustin Hadelich, Louis Lortie, Gérard Caussé, and members of the Ébène, New Zealand, and Penderecki String Quartets. In 2021, he was awarded the Canada Council for the Arts Virginia Parker Prize, the nation’s highest honor for emerging classical musicians from the council. Named CBC/Radio-Canada’s 2019 Classical Revelation Artist, he is also a laureate of Gautier Capuçon’s Classe d’Excellence at the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris.

His recordings for ATMA Classique and Printemps des Arts de Monaco have been met with critical acclaim. From his debut album, Cavatine, recorded on the 1696 “Bonjour” Stradivarius cello with pianist Philip Chiu, it earned praise from Classica Magazine for “technical perfection with a personal style that leaves us wanting to hear more.” His latest solo release, Ricercari (September 2023), showcases seven new compositions for solo cello by Canadian and international composers alongside Domenico Gabrielli’s earliest works for the instrument. His performances are frequently broadcast on CBC, BBC, RTÉ Radio, Radio France, and Medici.tv. This past fall, he released his first concerto disc, with the esteemed Les Violons du Roy. With this Juno award winning Quebec chamber orchestra, he recorded the cello concerti of Haydn and Canadian composer, Jacques Hétu.

Dedicated to pushing classical music boundaries, Mr. Crozman spearheads projects that commission and premiere new works by acclaimed Canadian composers such as Alexina Louie, Allan Gordon Bell, Liam Ritz, James O’Callaghan, and Kelly-Marie Murphy.

Cameron trained with Paul Pulford in Canada before studying at the Paris Conservatoire, where he graduated with highest honors under Michel Strauss. In 2018, he was mentored by violinist James Ehnes through the André-Bourbeau Award from Jeunesses Musicales Canada. As an educator, Cameron has been invited to give masterclasses at renowned institutions, including the Académie Rainier III in Monaco, Mount Royal University Conservatory, Lawrence University, University of Montreal, and the Victoria Conservatory.

In addition to performing, Mr. Crozman co-founded ClassicalValley, a festival merging chamber music and wine in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley. He also serves as Artistic Director of Chamber Music for the Edeta Arts International Festival in Llíria, Spain—a UNESCO Creative City of Music. He currently performs on a c. 1750 Gennaro Gagliano cello, generously loaned by the Canada Council for the Arts Instrument Bank.
